Isthmus was started by Chris Tant & Patrick Lees in the 1980’s. With each having a background in residential construction, they joined forces to start buying and refurbishing blocks of residential flats in Auckland. In 1992 they diversified in to industrial property and sold the last of their residential investments in the mid 1990’s. They continued to grow their portfolio through prudent purchasing and reinvesting profits. Chris is the sole surviving founder with the Company being based in our building in St. Heliers, Auckland.
Our philosophy has been to hand pick a small number of projects and to then maximize them through intensive management. Because we generally retain ownership of properties post refurbishment, we don’t need to, or want to, undertake too many projects. In between times we are kept busy with maintaining & managing our existing portfolio of industrial and retail properties.
We are patient investors who take a long term view of our investments and still own the first industrial property we purchased in 1992. We favour properties with an underutilized land component, but cast quite a wide net with what we are prepared to look at. Occasionally this will include joint ventures.
We value long term relationships, particularly with our Tenant clients, some of whom have been with us for over 20 years.
The typical value range for our properties is NZ$1m - NZ$10m.
